Features

■The longest hollow conductors in the world
Hollow conductors are used for water-cooled electromagnets. The joints of hollow conductor are prone to water leakage. Therefore, the number of joints are reduced, and the risk of water leakage is reduced when coils are lengthened. Mileon^®, manufactured by Luvata, is a very long seamless hollow conductor. Coils can be provided in hundreds or thousands of meters, not just several meters. The heaviest (seamless) coils weigh around 1700 kg.
Luvata manufactures Mileon^® coils using only oxygen-free copper under quality standards that are as strict as the standards for other hollow conductors. Mileon^® coils manufactured by Luvata help reduce the amount of copper scrap generated during the magnet manufacturing process, contributing to the saving of copper, an expensive resource.
Compared to short coils cut to predetermined lengths, long coils enable users to more flexibly respond to sudden changes during work and other issues.
Unlike conventional coils, the Mileon^®coils manufactured by Luvata make it possible to reduce packaging materials and environmental burdens because they are wound around large wooden spools.

■Dies of a wide range of types and sizes
Because we possess thousands of dies due to our long history of hollow conductor manufacturing, we manufacture products of almost every size with very short lead times.
The smallest size is 4 × 4 mm (0.1 kg or more per meter), and the largest may exceed 100 mm wide (20 kg or less per meter).
We can also supply a small number of conductors as prototypes.

■Materials for hollow conductors
Luvata uses OF-OK^®, a high-purity oxygen-free copper made by Luvata, to manufacture hollow conductors which are highly conductive (conductivity rate of 100% IACS or higher).
The oxygen-free copper used for Luvata hollow conductors, OF-OK^® manufactured by Luvata, is made from strictly selected highly pure raw materials and cast in-house.
Luvata recommends using copper that contains silver, mainly OF-OK^® copper made by Luvata (Cu-0.03% Ag or Cu-0.01% Ag) if excellent heat resistance is required or it is necessary to improve creep characteristics.
The silver-containing copper made by Luvata has high electrical and thermal conductivity and is made using oxygen-free copper. This makes its brazeability and weldability superior to touch pitch copper.
